SisterMentors has helped 28 women of color doctoral candidates to complete their dissertation and get the doctorate since we were founded in September 1997.

The women received their doctorates in various disciplines including English, Political Science, American Studies, Government and Politics and French. They graduated from diverse universities including the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Howard University, the University of Maryland, Louisiana State University, American University, Duke University, Stanford University, University of London in England and Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in Paris.

While completing the dissertation, many of the women in SisterMentors work full time to support themselves and their families. Once they receive their doctorate, SisterMentors' women seek to advance in their careers by obtaining professional jobs and positions with higher salaries.

Some of our graduates are currently professors at historically black colleges and universities and at predominantly white universities. Others are employed in government, the private sector and nonprofit organizations.

Our vision for our graduates is that they will be Ph.Ds with a social conscience and give back to their communities through promoting the value of education among women and people of color. In the true spirit of giving back, one of our graduates generously donated her time to helping a woman of color doctoral candidate --- who was not a part of SisterMentors --- complete the dissertation and get the doctorate.

Here are profiles of some of our graduates:
